Constructed using a robust Aluminium internal chassis and sturdy outer housing. The powerful motor is ideal for larger projects such as curtains with sewing speeds up to 800 stitches per minute. The integrated sewing light illuminates the sewing area to relieve eye strain. 

Simply select the desired stitch with the numbered dial, the stitch width and length are both adjustable for the perfect stitch. The XL5500 comes with so many features that you would only expect to find on more expensive models.

• Buttonhole in 4 Steps - Create perfect buttonholes in 4 simple steps using the automatic buttonhole feature. Use the convenient markings on the presser foot to measure the length perfectly.  
• 15 Stitch Selections - As well as the regular utility stitches, the XL5500 also has stretch stitches, suitable for modern fabrics. You can even use twin needle (included) to give that professional finish to your projects.
• Electronic Foot Control - Allows you to accurately control the sewing speed. Even at low speeds, this new type of foot control generates less heat than conventional resistor type versions improving long term reliability.
• Needle Threader - This feature is a real time saver. Engage the needle threader behind the needle and a small hook locates through the eye of the needle. The thread is then taken around the guide and the needle threader released. Result - a needle threaded in seconds.
• Automatic Foot Pressure - No need to adjust the foot pressure, its all done automatically. Delicate lightweight fabrics can be sewn avoiding the possibility of marking the fabric. Heavyweight material, no problem, even the presser foot lifter has an extra lift for quilting projects or thincker fabric.
• Auto De-clutch Bobbin - No need to manually de-clutch. Simply click the bobbin winder into position and the sewing mechanism is automatically released.
• Drop Feed - For those who like to express their creativity with free hand embroidery. Drop the feed dogs leaving you in full control. For free-motion quilting or traditionally for darning.
• Free Arm / Flat Bed - Use as conventional flat bed for general sewing tasks or remove the accessory box for free arm sewing, allowing you to easily sew sleeves, trouser legs or any difficult to reach areas. Use the accessory box to keep sewing essentials at hand. 
• Quick Release Foot Holder - To change the presser foot, lift the lever and the foot will detach. To attach the another foot, line the foot up with the foot holder and lower the presser bar. We offer a wide range of optional accessories for all Brother machines.
