Who is the course for?
The course is for people who would love to learn how to free machine embroidery. If you have had a go at it and have been put off or you have never tried it but have heard so much about it and feel that you would like to learn, then this is the course for you. This course is suitable for complete beginners- and I really mean that. It’s also great for learning new techniques and design ideas.
What is the course about?
This relaxed yet informative day will teach you how to free machine embroider. You will learn tips and techniques and quickly find how easy and fun this technique is. You will learn how to problem solve so that if you should experience any teething difficulties as you learn to free machine embroider, you will be able to overcome them. A variety of techniques will be demonstrated to show just how versatile free machine embroidering is so whether you’re a quilter, a dressmaker, an artist or a designer-maker there is something for you in this course. The techniques include painting and stamping onto fabric, bonding silk, using thick threads in the bobbin and a soldering iron. Intrigued ?-then come along
What can be achieved?
At the end of the day a series of samples should be achieved.
What are the course times?
30 Min Lunch Break
There will be a maximum of 6 people per course.
The studio is located above Frank Nutt’s Sewing Machine shop in Kings Heath and parking is readily available in the side streets.
Course includes use of sewing machines & materials throughout the day.
Tea, coffee and kit kats will be provided throughout the day but students will need to bring a packed lunch. There is a fridge to keep it in.

In order for a workshop to run, I require a minimum of 3 students enrolled.
I reserve the right to cancel or postpone a workshop 5 working days before the starting date if I do not get the minimum registration needed.
In the rare event that I need to cancel a workshop, you will receive a full refund.
If you are unable to attend a workshop then you must give me a minimum of 48 hours notice and you will receive a workshop credit for another workshop.
After this withdrawal period, credits will not be given due to my small class size.

Claire Muir Courses
After three years at Bishop Otter College, Chichester, Claire received a First Class Honours degree in Art and Related Arts, giving her the opportunity for a further year’s Postgraduate study in the Textiles Department of Glasgow School of Art.
Subsequent employment as a designer of headdresses and accessories for Stageworks Worldwide Productions enabled her to experiment with and to evaluate the potential of a wide range of techniques and materials. The experience and knowledge she amassed during this period she has since developed further as displayed in her current creations.
Claire regularly exhibits her work and demonstrates her skills at exhibitions countrywide. She is also happy to talk about her work and ideas to Guilds and other societies and has also organised practical workshops for interested parties.
Claire also teaches at Denman College in Oxford and writes articles for Stitch and Sewing World magazines.
Initial enquiries are welcomed by phone or email and can be followed up with meetings with Claire at her studio.
Workshops can be arranged on a day to suit you for a minimum of three people. Claire also caters for Hen parties and other craft parties.
